Managing Partner Jonathan D. Gottlieb established The Gottlieb Law Firm, PLLC in 2012. Aside from overseeing the internal day-to-day operations of the firm, Mr. Gottlieb regularly prepares cases for and appears at tax certiorari administrative conferences and judicial proceedings throughout the New York metropolitan area. Mr. Gottlieb has successfully engaged in appellate practice related to property tax matters in the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court, Second Department, consulted on Industrial Development Agency agreements involving substantial real estate portfolios and participated in arbitration proceedings concerning the valuation of significant pieces of commercial real estate.
Mr. Gottlieb was previously the managing attorney for over two years at a boutique assessment review law firm on Long Island where his practice focused on real property tax law, particularly the representation of aggrieved parties before assessment review boards and government certiorari counsel. During his time as a managing attorney, Mr. Gottlieb gained considerable knowledge pertaining to the administration of real property taxes and assessments in the State of New York, experience with real property tax exemptions, abatements and incentives and an understanding of real property valuation.
Prior to his role as a managing attorney, Mr. Gottlieb was an associate for over four years at a New York City law firm where he primarily represented developers of condominiums and cooperatives in real estate matters. During his time practicing law in Manhattan, Mr. Gottlieb attained a familiarity with the administration of real property taxes and assessments in the City of New York.
Mr. Gottlieb received his Juris Doctorate from St. John’s University School of Law in 2005 and his B.A. with honors from Queens College of the City University of New York in 2001. At St. John’s, he was the Notes and Comments Editor of the New York Litigator and a student editor of the New York Real Property Law Journal.
Mr. Gottlieb was admitted to the New Jersey State Bar and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey in 2005, the New York State Bar in 2006, the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York in 2008 and the United States Supreme Court in 2013. Mr. Gottlieb is a member of the New York City Real Estate Tax Review Bar Association, the Tax Certiorari Committees of the Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester County Bar Associations and the New York State Bar Association.
